From Bakewell take the A6 Matlock road, follow this till just past the signs for Haddon Hall where you take a right, the first major junction for Youlgreave, the B5056, then after about 1km take the first left over the bridge. You then need the first left you come to signposted Birchover.
Your now on Birchover road, just follow the road for around 2km where once up through the village you'll find yourself in open countryside, after a long straight stretch of road you'll rise up to the high point of the moor, there just over the wall in a field to your right by a small parking spot lays the Andle stone.
There's alternative parking around 150 metres further along the road.

Described by some as a natural altar the Andle stone is a large natural gritstone rock with it's own modern dry stone wall enclosure and is surrounded by a dense stand of rhododendrons.
On it's face are carved "foot holds" and at some time in the past metal "hand holds" have also been added to aid the climb onto it's top, beware if you do decide to climb it though, which is easy enough, though if wet the top can be very slippery, the decent is much harder than the ascent also and best attempted with a second person to guide you to the foot holes which become impossible to spot yourself on the way down.

Please note, the Andle stone is located on private land, i have myself visited it many times despite this but due respect should be shown to ensure future visitors also enjoy access.
