Deep Dale, King Sterndale
East of Buxton
OS Grid Reference SK0970 7124.
Parking by King Sterndale's war memorial at SK094 716; follow the path, the Midshires Way SE through the farmyard to Deep Dale. Descend into the Dale and follow the stoney track south for several hundred yards, the cave mouth, 4.5m high and 6m wide is clearly visible on the east side. High above the trees on the west side is Deep Dale cave.
In the 15th Century the cave was known as Tursthous which translated means 'giants house'.
Thirst House has been archaeologically excavated and the finds are in Buxton Museum.
